1. Aid to victims of Tsunami disaster- January
2005:
On December 26, 2004, the tsunami generated by the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake,
left a trail of unprecedented devastation along the coastlines of Southeast
Asian countries and especially of India. It had killed approximately 275,000
people, making it one of the deadliest disasters in modern history. Every Indian
citizen was vested with the moral responsibility of extending their arms to
relieve the distress of the affected.
TEF fraternity was second to none in unanimously rising to such occasions. An
amount of Rs.3,54,181/- was collected and presented to “M S Swaminathan
Research Foundation - Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme”.

2. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AT TEF - 19th January, 2005 - The Pongal Kalai Vizha
The Pongal Kalai Vizha (the TEF Annual Day – 2005), was celebrated at the Shaab
Park, it was a literary and a socio cultural feast encapsulated into a three
hour program. During the program a performance on Nattupura Padalgal and a
lecture on “literature & its value for life” were done.

The program on Nattupura Padalgal (demonstration on Folk Music of Tamilnadu) was
performed by the famous couple who had brought the rich cultural heritage to
this generation. Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneetha Krishnan, Professor & Head,
Department of Art History, Aesthetics & Fine Arts, Madurai Kamaraj University
and Professor Dr. Navaneetha Krishnan
The couple’s performance is not just entertaining, but also showcases myriads of
ancient rituals and practices in their respective contexts. They have a profound
faith in the significance of folk art for imparting positive values among the
masses. Their performances on stage thus are not just mere entertainment shows,
but an attempt to trace the rich cultural heritage of the folk scenario.
3. The First Technical Meet – 2nd February 2005

Session–1: "How to Beat Job Stress?”
Dr. MADHAVA RAO, MBBS MD DNB MFOM PhD, Senior specialist, Occupational,
medicine, and Head, Occupational Health Division, Shuaiba Industrial Medical
Center gave a comprehensive presentation explaining Stress as ‘a state aroused
by physical, environmental or social situations evaluated as potentially
threatening’ and went on explicating , types of Stress, causes of Stress,
emphasising Occupational Stress, Stress models, Stress systems and warnings.
Several Case studied were presented, detailing key factors and work related
problems. Audience were briefed on stress management and coping with stress.

Session–2: "Alternative Medicine - Acupuncture, Acupressure & Aroma
Therapy"
Dr.Poongothai. BSc, BEd,DPT,PhD., Physiotherapist Kuwait National English School
gave an interesting and informative presentation on various alternative
medicines, such as Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, Yoga, Breathing Exercises
And Postures, detailing that they work by producing energy, aiding activity of
pain killing chemicals, alter brain chemistry and central nervous systems.
Benefits such as Regulated blood pressure, blood flow, Drugless treatment, No
side effects, Cure in short period, Increased stamina, Better appetite,
Promotion of restful sleep, Relaxation to the whole body, Recovery from illness

Session–1 "Risk and Environment assessment”
Presented by Mr. G. SWAMINATHAN M. Tech (Chem. Engg.) Head of Chemical
Engineering Dept. & Cell for Industrial Safety & Risk analysis – Central Leather
Research Institute, Chennai and Honorary Reader, Anna University.
Mr. G. SWAMINATHAN gave a scintillating presentation explaining risk assessment
as a careful examination of what in our work, could cause harm to people, so
that we can weigh up whether we have taken enough precautions or should do more
to prevent harm.
He emphasised that the aim is to make sure that no one gets hurt or becomes ill.
Stating that accidents and ill health can ruin lives, and affect our business
too if output is lost, machinery is damaged apart from increase in insurance

Session–2: "Care and tips on Immunisation"
Presented by Dr. VIDYA PRABHAKAR, Pediatrician at Adan Hospital and Coordinator,
Immunization program, Indian Medical Forum, Kuwait.
Dr. Vidya Prabahakar, Paediatrician, Adan Hospital, presented the important role
of Immunisation, as it represents one of the most cost effective means of
preventing serious infectious diseases. She highlighted the type of infections
such as DPT, Poliomyelitis, HIB, MMR, Hepatitis-B, Meningococcal and
Tuberculosis.
The presentation was illustrated with photographs and information such as
Special care, Tips related to immunization and Facts on infections which were
both, useful and revealing.
Good health is a great asset and a simple definition of health is absence of
diseases, to achieve healthy living – ‘Prevention is better than cure’.An
valuable hand out titled ‘A Guide to your Childs Health’ ( complied by Indian
Doctors forum), comprising of Immunization records, Optional Vaccines, Growth
record, Development Chart, Special Care during Vaccination and Tips to parents

Session 1:"Effective Presentation Skills"
Mr. Trevor Allwood, A renowned trainer from Dale
Carnegie, UK, enthralled the audience with his valuable presentation on
Effective Presentation Skills. He highlighted that ‘Analyse Audience’, ‘Set Your
Goal and Keep It Before You’ , ‘Confidence is the Key – Predetermine Your Mind
To Success’ , Do Your Homework , Plan the Parts of Your Presentation , Plan Your
Format and Delivery , Manage Expectations and ‘Keep Your Audience's Attention’
are the essentials of an effective presentation.
He explained that ‘Introduction’, ‘Motivation Opening’, ‘Outline of Agenda’,
‘Present basic idea’, ‘Content – selection by selection’, ‘Recap of each
session’, ‘Make Transitions to next session’, ‘ Wrap up’ and ‘ Conclusion’ are
the most Effective Format of Presentation.
Session 2: "Introduction to Oil Field Technologies- an awareness programme
on Oil Exploration & Production"
Mr. Naz Gazi, Reservoir Engineer & Sr. Technical
Advisor, Business Development & Technology, Halliburton Kuwait. gave a
captivating presentation highlighting technical details on oil Drilling ,
Formation Evaluation, Fluid Systems, Production Optimization, Well Completions,
Well Intervention, Simulation, Sand Control, Reservoir Performance and Pipeline
& Process Services, highlighting activity in Middle east and in particular,
Kuwait, apart from other interesting topics such as production optimization and
enhanced recovery.

6. TEF For the Students Community - PHYSICS TALENT TEST.
To commemorate the International year of physics, the Tamilnadu Engineers Forum
in association with The Physics Society, Chennai and the India International
School, conducted a Physics talent tests (PTT) for students of standard 10th &

In a step towards providing a platform for Members, their children & spouse to
exhibit their talents in various arenas, the forum launched a program consisting
of competitions in literary & cultural activities and named the celebrations as
“May Fair”. As part of "May Fair" activities, Children’s Quiz and Elocution
competitions were successfully held at India International School, Mangaf on
29.4.05.
7. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AT TEF – “May Fair – 2005” (19th MAY, 2005 at Al –
Shaab Leisure Park)
“May Fair”, the first cultural event of the year, came to a grand finale on
19.5.05 at Shaab Park with the spectacular release of "TEF MEMBER DIRECTORY" and
staging in-house cultural & Fun Fair events. The program provided ample
opportunities for member’s kids and the members too, to reveal their skills &
talents. The Highlight of the event was felicitation of past TEF Presidents and
Secretaries during the release of the member directory.

8. TEF For the Students Community - Felicitation Of Toppers – June 2005
Children of TEF members who have topped the 10th

Mrs. Lalitha Muthu, BA (Eco), MBA (Finance) with experience as Investment
Analyst for 5 years in MAC Group, with her enchanting presentation gave an
insight into Mutual Funds, detailing What is a Mutual Fund, Classification of
Mutual Funds, Why Choose Mutual Funds, Ground Rules for Mutual Funds Investing
and Mutual Funds NRIs which NRIs can consider.
Her presentation clarified concepts such as Load, Purchase price, Redemption
price Repurchase price, NAV and Expense ratio and details on Ground Rules for
Mutual Fund Investment, Selling and Product Innovations.

Session–2: "Lecture & Demonstration on CPR (Cardio - Pulmonary
Resuscitation)"
Dr. Jayakrishnan, MD, DTCD, DNB, MRCP (UK), FCCP.
Professor in the Chest Unit of PSG Medical College for 7 years and currently,
Consultant Chest Physician at Mubarakh Chest Hospital, Kuwait, gave a
resourceful presentation on Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), briefing on
What CPR is, and how to perform CPR on adults and Children. Members showed
immense response to his question answer session and many members participated,
enthusiastically and practised CPR on a dummy. Dr. Jayakrishnan clarified other
medical queries raised by the audience.

Mr. Bill Mcdougall, Area Manager - Eutectic + Castolin / Tafa – Praxair and Mr.
S.K. SharmaExecutive, AL Muhaya General Trading & Cont. Co. WLL (Thermal Spray
Coating & workshop Division) gave the presentation. They provided an
introduction to next generation Thermal spraying technique which benefits to
enhance service life & reduce down time cost due to worn out parts from

Session – 2: "An insight to Environment Impact Assessment Studies for
Project Managers
presented by Mr. Garlapati Ashok B.E., M.B.A., an Environment Engineer with 17
years of experience in environment consultancy and environment management in oil
and gas industries. He is currently working as HSE Specialist with KOC in
Exploration and Production Development Directorate, is the Vice President of
ASSE-Kuwait Chapter and member of International Taskforce constituted by ASSE,
USA to study the needs of international ASSE members.
The presentation was on the significance of Environment Impact Assessment
Studies for sustainable development, the process of conducting EIA, regulations
related to EIA and techniques to be known by Project Managers & decision makers
in choosing the EIA consultant, evaluation of EIA reports and implementation of
